Queen Cutlery History – Knife Library

World’s most comprehensive visual database of Queen and Schatt & Morgan cutlery

Color photos and descriptions of over 500 knives

Indispensable resource for knife collectors

Queen Cutlery History is pleased to offer what has been called the “most complete book on Queen knives ever published” in an enhanced online form. Full color photographs showing over 500 individual knives are described. This collection is very strong in Queen City folding and fixed blades and Queen Cutlery products into the early 1980’s. It also includes a Schatt & Morgan Sampler. Most of the photographs originally appeared in in Jim Sargent’s book American Premium Guide to Knives and Razors, 7th Edition. This final edition, published in 2008, is now out of print.

At the time of its publication, Sargent said, “And special thanks to Fred and Linda Fisher for a complete revision and many new additions to the Queen section. A special thanks to Linda for her expertise with the computer. I feel safe in saying we have the most complete book on Queen knives that has ever been published, thanks to Fred and Linda’s hard work.” (p. 8).

Fred and Linda assembled a small but very significant group of fellow Queen collectors at their home, including David Clark, Michael Sullivan, David Krauss, Howard Drake, and Jim and Jean Sargent. In several marathon days they photographed examples of every early model and many variations up to 1980 and a little further on some early special editions. Then they assembled photographs by year and model number, carefully annotated each photograph, and loaned that collection to Jim Sargent for his book. Fred and Linda, having reached documented agreement with Jim Sargent, now generously contribute this collection to our website, so it will once again be accessible to collectors.

Knives are displayed in galleries based initially by company name and by fixed or folding knives. For Queen Cutlery, photos are grouped in sets of knife model numbers, with an emphasis on differing tang stamp variations and handle materials. We are grateful to Dan Lago for enhancing virtually all the original photos.

Like the previously available Sargent print book, this collection will help collectors and historians identify their knives and therefore get a better sense of their value. Please note we have made a conscious decision not to include the estimated values of these cutlery items. The 7th and last edition of the Sargent books was published several years ago. The price guide was authored by Jim Sargent who is sadly, no longer living. Knife values can change with time and market conditions. In any case, the value is what a buyer is willing to pay.

Feel free to browse or zero in on any particular knife of interest.

How to use the Knife Library

At this time the library is comprised of descriptions and color photos of about 500 knives. These are organized on pages located in sub-menus which you can access by hovering your mouse over the main menu heading Knife Library. Simply click on the page which describes the knives you want to see an that page will, of course, open.

On each page the photos are arranged in galleries containing, usually, a dozen or more knives. The description appears below the photo. Notice there are 4 photos across the page. At lower right below each strip are numbers 1, 2, 3 and often 4 and 5, denoting the rest of the photos in that gallery. Click on any photo to enlarge it. You can also click any enlarged photo to move to the next in the series.
